The Haitian Association of Indiana (HAI) is a non-profit organization that provides social services, educational and wellness support to Haitians in greater Indianapolis and the state of Indiana.
When HAI started in 2008, Haitians in Indiana numbered in the hundreds. Now, Numbered in the 10,000+, Haitian migrants have become a growing part of the Indiana community in recent years. The increased population is fueled primarily by internal migration from big Haitian hubs like Florida and New York. They’re attracted to the State of Indiana and particularly the city of Indianapolis because of the economy, the job market and the relatively low cost of living.
The Haitian Association of Indiana, along with our local religious institutions played a major role in facilitating this change. HAI has a public presence and over the years have built a foundation of trust in the community so Haitians considering a move to the state of Indiana usually contact HAI first.
HAI is a community based organization, registered as Federal Tax Exempt charitable under section 501(C) (3) of the Federal Revenue Code, established to connect Haitians and Friends of Haiti in Indiana through Education, Arts and Culture and Advocacy. We live by our mission to serve a growing Haitian community in Indiana while serving one another and growing together with the Friends of Haiti for the benefits of the local community and Haiti.
